however, that the copy of the letter enclosed indicates that Rang Mo & Co., are still enquiring for Opium and suggests that Bromley should endeavour to obtain a supply from a Continental port, since the
export from England is forbidden.
"We rather prefer to get pero than Ipo and we therefore wonder if you can do this in any of the Continental porta" refers to this Pero and Ipo being names for special kinds of Opium.
I do not think there is any harm in this letter and would suggest that it be allowed to go on, but I doubt whether it is desirable for a concern like the Russian & English Trade & Transport Association to dabble in Opium dealings and I expressed this to Miss Horseman as my personal opinion. She has promised to convey this to Jenkins and ▼ will try and see him again in the course of the
next few days.
I may add that the Estate Agents at Bromley's late flat told me that when he took over the lease from the original tenants he told them that he wished to be near the Russian Consulate in Bedford Square because he was engaged on Government work in Munitions bet- ween Russia and England. This is another characteristic falsehood on the part of Bromley. It is fair however, to say that he gave as a reference the well-known firm of solicitors, Timbrell & Deighton, 90, Cannon Street, and on enquiry there Mr. Deighton gives him a good character, though he says he is a man given to "making exagger- ated statements," to my mind rather a mild way of expressing
Bromley's characteristics.
